Chapter One---Welcome Home ---
"come on come on, this is screaming photo op..." Panic! at the Disco~ "Time To Dance"

Camp Ice. I loved that place. It's the place where exactly one year ago today, I met my best friends in the world. Layla, Dani, Audrey, and Rosalie. We were all new to the camp, just fifteen years old, and had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. We've been friends ever since. I loved those girls to death, and as far as I knew, all of them were returning this year, Rosalie with her boyfriend Lucas, who she had started dating at the Last Dance the year before. I snapped back to reality when i saw a flash behind my closed eyes. "Kat!" I shrieked at my ten-year-old sister, who had just decided to take a picture of me while i was sleeping from the backseat,"Don't you EVER steal my camera! I thought i told you that before!!!"She had stolen my camera out of my worn duffel bag, which sat in the seat next to her. My 22-year old cousin Owen turned and said "Kat, sit down! You want me to crash on the highway?!" She sat. Kat always listened to Owen. He just had that kind of power. I shrank back into my seat, turning my iPod on shuffle. I loved putting my iPod on shuffle, i guess it was just the element of surprise i liked, you never knew what was coming next. "The Kill" by 30 Seconds to Mars came on, and I sighed as Jared Leto's voice came pounding into my ears. I loved him, all the things he wrote seemed to just fit with my life. If we ever met him, i swore to one of my my best friends Audrey on one random night in October, i would tell him that. I pulled my dark red hoodie around me tighter, popped up the hood, leaned the seat back, and settled in sleep for the rest of the 45 minute drive.

I woke when Owen hit me on the arm. "Ouch!" i exclaimed, still dazed from sleep, "What did you do that for?"
"Get your stuff ready, we're like two minutes away." I suppressed a little shriek. Two minutes and counting until i saw my best friends. I pulled out my cell and sent a mass text to all four of them. Kayti: OMG. Two minutes chicas!!!
Rosalie:See you soooooon! XoXo!
Audrey: L8r sk8r!
Dani: Get Ready, this year's gonna be our year!!
Layla: You ready to rock? What's your outfit like today?
Now I really was excited. I texted Layla back with my outfit check: Dark navy skinny jeans(it WAS August, but it had been really cold the last few days.) My red hoodie, An old Jimmy Eat World tour tee i had found online for like five dollars, and my pride, the yellow high top Converse I had been looking for since I had seen The White Tie Affair's album cover, but only found a month ago at a garage sale. They hadn't seen them yet, they all knew I was obsessed with finding them, I had just waited until we were all together to show them off. I looked up and smiled to myself, we had pulled on to the dirt road leading up to the camp. We pulled into the lot and the first thing i saw when I jumped out of Owen's Escalade was the girls running towards me in a shrieking mass of hugs and "Ohmygod i haven't seen you in FOREVER"'s. I pushed my freshly dyed platinum blond/turquoise highlighted hair out of my eyes and said "Hey guys! Oh my god, this is gonna be epic! We're gonna own this summer!" Audrey was the first to notice. "Oh my god! Your shoes! Where did you find them?!" "Garage Sale. Forty-Seventh Street. I wanted to wait til I got here to tell you!" "Well they look fantastic," said Layla enviously, "nice touch on the matching hair and laces." I had forgotten i'd put them in that morning, my standard rainbow striped ones in my bag somewhere, probably to be lost until i got home next week. Dani looked ecstatic. "Dani, what? Seriously, tell me now so we don't have to perform CPR if you faint from holding in that air for too long." She exhaled "OHMYGODWE'REINTHESAMECABINTHEGIRLSLETMETELLYOU!!!!" My jaw dropped. That was impossible. More than two friends in a cabin NEVER happened around here. "Okay, who rigged it?" I asked, lowering my voice so that whatever counselors were around couldn't hear us. Dani and Rose raised their hands sheepishly. "Of course," I laughed, "Why did I even ask?"
Those girls were always getting themselves into things. "Which cabin?" "Seven," said Rose, "Right next to the---" "Boys cabin?" I finished, laughing. "It's not like there's gonna be any worthwhile guys to chase around here. It's only like Lucas and Caden. Lucas is taken," i said, smirking at Rose," And Caden's just, Caden. Too much of a friend." Then they all exchanged a look, a look i didn't understand. "What? What did you do?" I shot them a challenging look. "Come up to the cabin first," Audrey said, "then we'll show you."

Sweeping her dark brown with purple hair over one shoulder, Rose led us all up to Cabin Seven. I looked around, shocked at how clean the bunks were. "You guys are seriously this neat? What happened? Okay, so which bunk am I taking?" "Your pick," Audrey pointed,"It's either the bottom bunk next to mine or the one on top of Dani." "Sorry Dani, but you DO snore!" I laughed and tossed my duffel onto the bunk next to Audrey. That was that. I still didn't know what that look they had exchanged was all about. "Nowwww can we go down to the Firepit?" The Firepit was the name we had given the building we all hung out in during the day, because it was always humid and sticky down there until someone turned on the A/C. It was also the location of the Last Dance.

So we went, but first I tossed my sweater on top of my bag, just to be sure I wouldn't have to tie it around my waist if it got too warm down there. When the girls got down to the doors in front of the building, they blocked the door. "Uh, dudes, don't we wanna go in the building?" Layla replied, " Prepare yourself to lay eyes on the best thing you've probably seen in months." So i inhaled, let it out, and they opened the doors ahead of me. I saw Caden and Lucas, so I waved and shot a "Hey" over to them, then I saw three of the most gorgeous guys I'd seen in a very long time sitting on the couch in the centre of the room. There was a blond guy, the least cute of the three, with a sort of Elvis haircut, a redhead who looked to be really tall, and this one other guy, a brown-haired guy, he looked to be about seventeen with glasses, but something about him just struck me like lightning. As if he could read my mind, he turned his head away from the conversation the other two were having, locked his gaze with mine, and smiled sweetly. Something in me sort of exploded then. I leaned over to Audrey, and in an adrenaline-laced tone, asked, "who are those guys and where on earth did they come from?" She answered," The blond? That's Devin, the tall redhead is Austin, and the brown haired guy, that's Aidan. They're counselors. I think Aidan's, like, checking you out." She laughed maniacly. I whipped my head around, and sure enough, I caught him soon enough to see him quickly turn around and his cheeks go up in flames. "Aww, he's cute. I'm gonna go say hi." I strode over to where they were sitting and smiled sweetly. "Hey, I'm Kayti." The blond, Devin, looked up and smirked, a mischievious sparkle to his eyes, said "Devin." the redhead waved."I'm Austin." Then Aidan, still blushing madly, turned towards me, offering his hand. "H--hey. Uh, I'm Aidan." I shook, smiling gently, hoping the look on my face said "it's okay, you can stop blushing now." Then as if by another round of magic, Aidan's cell rang, playing not just any song, but "The Middle" by Jimmy Eat World, the song that had got me through my first year of high school. He looked embarrassed as he hit ignore and turned off his phone, shoving it in his jeans. "Cool song," I said, wishing to the heavens that all this embarrassing stuff wouldn't happen to him, "It's my favorite." "Really?" He looked a lot less red than before, "Mine too. I've also got "Weapons Wired" by The Higher." "No way," I gaped at him, "I seriously thought I was the only one who listened to them!" He smiled. "Well, you aren't. Here, wanna sit down?" He shoved over enough to make a new space on the couch, knocking Devin to the floor. "Ouch dude, we just met and you're aleady knocking me over? Real nice." I sat down next to Aidan, my nose catching a gentle scent of vanilla. That was nice. I knew what it was, i'd helped Rose pick it out to buy it for Lucas's birthday. It was my favorite. He caught sight of my iPod, and asked me "What stuff do you have on there?" "Here, look through." I said, handing him the iPod and one headphone, I put the other in my own ear. Not even ten seconds later, I heard the opening notes of "The Kill". "This one's my favorite ever." I told him, nodding my head along with the music. "Me too." he replied, his head nodding in time with mine. I was really starting to think that he might like me as much as I like him. I could tell from that second he'd turned on "The Kill" that I'd be spending a lot of time with this Aidan guy.
